Really outstanding dental experience every single time. I’ve been going here since they opened. I love how thorough my 6month dental cleanings are, how skilled the dentists are at addressing cavities, how friendly and kind everyone is. This is definitely the best dental experience in San Diego. Dr. Lockwood and Dr. Reyes are the best. Plenty of free parking available outside, comfortable waiting room, and plenty of breakfast, lunch, and shopping places in the area too. Highly recommend if you are looking for the best dental experience.

I’ve been coming to Rio Vista Family Dentistry for years now, and I can honestly say the “family” in their name isn’t just for show, it really feels like family. The entire staff is consistently kind, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. Whether it’s a routine cleaning or something more involved, they take the time to make sure I’m comfortable and informed. It’s rare to find a dental office that blends professionalism with such warmth, but they’ve nailed it. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a dentist who treats you like more than just a patient!

What you are told about your insurance being in-network could be wrong. The website is incorrect. I specifically asked and told wrong information. Anthem and Delta Dental are a mess because the owner is listed on there and the practice bills to Dr. Lockwood and Reyes. Before 2025, I asked if the specific dentist, Dr. Lockwood was in network with Anthem Blue Cross PPO, and I was told she was. To this day the website still mentions this. In August, I was even told by billing that the office was in-network. I have documentation for all of this. Through repeated exchanges with the billing department, the billing department acknowledged that the wrong billing code was used. The issue that Anthem told me was that the practice is listed under the owner, Tyler E. Nelson, DDS, and Rio family dental billed to the individual dentists (Dr. Lockwood and Reyes). In early August I I was told that I had exceeded my cap and charged $100 for a routine cleaning. Currently I am owed $1500 - $863.70 (The difference between what I paid out-of-pocket and what I should have paid in network) $636.70 + $100 (cleaning) Total of $736.70. I sent detailed revisions to all the claims showing what costs should have been. Since then Rio has told me that they would zero out the balance I owe (since they billed out of network), but refused to refund the difference for my out-of-pocket costs. Additionally, I have to push dental work to next year because of this. I made every effort to ask about staying in network and the insurance company even verified that the billing should be done under the owner. The billing department has promised to resolve this since August, and then ignored me. The practice even advertises that they participate. I think it is fair and just to refund the difference.

The office and team are excellent. I have been a patient for 3 years. I love Gabby my dental hygienist and the entire staff. They are so welcoming and knowledge, and I always feel how much they care and how truthful they are during my visits. Highly recommend them !
